Ocean University of China's Donkey-Hide Collagen Peptide Fraction CCAP1 Eased UVB Skin Damage in Mice When Taken by Mouth
Researchers at Ocean University of China's Marine Biomedical Research Institute of Qingdao made CCAP1, a type I collagen oligopeptide fraction of about 1.7 kDa from Colla Corii Asini (donkey-hide gelatin), and gave it orally at 100 or 200 mg/kg a day for 28 days to UVB-irradiated mice, reporting in Molecules. It reduced epidermal thickening, restored skin hydration and dermal collagen, and suppressed the collagen-degrading enzyme MMP1; in skin cells its protective effects disappeared when the enzyme AMPK was blocked. The work is in mice and cell cultures only.
