GLP-1 Prices Around the World 2026: Wegovy, Ozempic, Mounjaro, and Zepbound in the US, UK, France, Germany, Canada, UAE, and Australia

A month of Wegovy lists at $1,349 in the US, €195 in France, and C$89 as a Canadian generic. Local prices plus USD for 7 countries as of September 2, 2026.

A month of Wegovy 2.4 mg lists at $1,349 in the United States and €195 in France. That gap is the whole story of this guide. The US figure is the WAC, or wholesale acquisition cost, the manufacturer's sticker price before any discount. Almost nobody pays it. Novo Nordisk sells the same pen for $349 a month through its NovoCare pharmacy, and TrumpRx.gov lists it at $199. But insurers and their pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs, the middlemen who negotiate drug rebates) still start from the sticker, and other governments keep pointing at it.

Most rich countries negotiate one national price, and most still refuse to pay for weight loss. France began reimbursing Wegovy and Mounjaro on June 15, 2026. Public insurance covers 65% of a fixed pharmacy price, but only for adults with a BMI of 40, or 35 with a related illness, after diet and exercise have failed. England's NHS has prescribed Mounjaro through GP practices since June 23, 2025, in phases, for the standard £9.90 charge. Germany's public insurers are barred by law from covering slimming drugs, so obesity patients pay the pharmacy list price of €172 to €489 a month. Australia's PBS, the national drug subsidy, covers Ozempic for type 2 diabetes at A$25 a script and nothing for obesity yet. Canada has no public obesity coverage either. It does have generic semaglutide, at C$89 a month at Costco, the first in the G7.

Washington is now going after those foreign prices directly. The most-favored-nation (MFN) deal Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk signed on November 6, 2025 ties Medicare's $245 GLP-1 price to what other wealthy countries pay. On June 18, 2026, the US Trade Representative opened a Section 301 investigation into Germany's drug pricing. Section 301 is the trade law that lets the US answer another country's practices with tariffs. Four days later, Lilly cut its planned €2.3 billion Alzey plant in Germany by half. Germany's parliament passed its savings law on July 10 with a fixed 15.5% manufacturer rebate instead of the sliding rebate Lilly had objected to. The Section 301 hearing is set for September 22.

Every price below is in local currency, with a US dollar figure in the note. Conversions use exchange rates from September 2, 2026: £1 = $1.35, €1 = $1.16, C$1 = $0.72, AED 1 = $0.27, and A$1 = $0.72. Prices come from national price lists, government pages, and pharmacy price checks, each cited in its row. Private pharmacy prices in the UK, Canada, and Australia move week to week, so treat them as a snapshot. For US channel-by-channel detail, see GLP-1 Drug Pricing: September 2026. United States: list price, self-pay, TrumpRx, and Medicare

The US has the highest sticker prices and the widest gap between the sticker and what people pay. NovoCare's own page lists Wegovy at $1,349.02 a package, and the White House TrumpRx fact sheet of February 5, 2026 quotes Ozempic at $1,028 and Zepbound at $1,088. Uninsured patients skip those numbers and buy from the manufacturers' pharmacies, NovoCare and LillyDirect. TrumpRx.gov, live since February 2026, points buyers to those same prices; the fact sheet put the average at about $350 a month. Medicare's GLP-1 Bridge, which runs July 1, 2026 through December 31, 2027, charges a $50 copay against a $245 negotiated price.

United Kingdom: NHS Mounjaro and a private market from £79

England's NHS began prescribing Mounjaro in GP practices on June 23, 2025, in phases, starting with the patients in greatest clinical need. NHS patients pay the standard prescription charge, £9.90 an item in England. The NHS buys at a confidential price. When Lilly raised the UK list price in September 2025, the NHS Business Services Authority reset the Drug Tariff reimbursement figure, and the NHS itself was not affected. Most people who want a GLP-1 for weight loss buy privately from online pharmacies, and those prices have dropped since the Wegovy pill launched in June 2026.

France: 65% reimbursement from June 15, 2026

France added Wegovy and Mounjaro to public reimbursement on June 15, 2026, under orders published in the Journal Officiel on May 28. The Assurance Maladie pays 65% of a fixed public pharmacy price and the patient pays 35%. The rules are narrow: adults with a BMI of 40 or more, or 35 or more with a weight-related illness, as a second-line treatment after nutritional care has failed. The first prescription must come from a specialist obesity service or hospital. Prices below are the public prices per pen, which is one month of weekly doses.

Germany: self-pay by law, and a trade fight over rebates

German statutory insurers may not pay for drugs whose main purpose is weight loss. Section 34 of the Social Code Book V lists slimming, appetite control, and body-weight regulation among the excluded uses. So Wegovy and Mounjaro for obesity are self-pay at the pharmacy list price, which is the same in every pharmacy; Ozempic and Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes are covered. The US dispute is about a different number: what insurers pay for patented drugs. Lilly halved its planned Alzey plant in late June 2026 over a proposed sliding rebate, and the Bundestag then passed a fixed 15.5% rebate instead.

Canada: brand prices and the first G7 generics

Canada has no public coverage for obesity drugs. Provincial plans such as the Ontario Drug Benefit list Ozempic and Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes only, under limited-use rules, and do not list Wegovy at all. What Canada does have is generic semaglutide. Health Canada approved Dr. Reddy's version on April 28, 2026 and Apotex's on May 1, the first in any G7 country, and both were in pharmacies by June. United Arab Emirates: first Wegovy pill outside the US

The UAE was the first country outside the US to sell the Wegovy pill, from June 3, 2026, after clearance by the Emirates Drug Establishment. Lilly's Foundayo pill had been on sale in Dubai since April. GLP-1s are prescription-only, sold through licensed pharmacies at set prices, and mostly paid out of pocket; insurers usually cover them only for diabetes. The dirham is pegged to the dollar at AED 3.6725, so the dollar figures do not move.

Australia: PBS covers diabetes, not obesity, while the TGA chases gray-market peptides

The Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) is Australia's national drug subsidy. It lists Ozempic for type 2 diabetes only. A general patient pays A$25 a script and a concession card holder A$7.70, against a dispensed price of A$131.40. Wegovy and Mounjaro are not on the PBS for obesity. The PBAC, the committee that advises on listings, recommended Wegovy in November 2025 for people with established heart disease and a BMI of 35 or more. Health Minister Mark Butler committed to listing it in January 2026, but the PBS status page still showed it unlisted on July 23, 2026. Separately, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) made unapproved peptides a formal compliance priority in June 2026. It named BPC-157, GHK-Cu, TB-500, retatrutide, and CJC-1295.

Buying across borders: what the law allows and why US prices differ

US law makes it generally illegal to import prescription drugs for personal use. The FDA's stated policy does not cover drugs already approved and sold in the US. In practice the agency lets small amounts through for serious conditions with no effective US treatment, generally a three-month supply, with a US doctor's name attached. Wegovy and Zepbound fail that test, so a Canadian generic is not a legal shortcut for an American. The deeper reason prices differ is structure. Other countries negotiate one national price. The US lets each manufacturer set a list price and each PBM negotiate rebates off it.
