Ajou University Trial: Cream With the AIMP1-Derived Peptide NeoPep-S Improved Scars, Pain, and Itching After Radiation for Breast Reconstruction

Plastic surgeons at Ajou University School of Medicine in South Korea reported in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery on October 24, 2026 a randomized, active-controlled trial in patients receiving radiation after mastectomy and breast reconstruction, comparing a cream containing NeoPep-S, a peptide derived from the protein AIMP1, with a standard barrier-repair moisturizer. Of 30 patients randomized 2:1, 23 completed the study (15 vs 8): skin water loss recovered similarly at one month, scar scores were significantly better with NeoPep-S at three months, pain was lower at both visits, and itching resolved completely in 100% versus 50%. The trial was small, and about a quarter of participants did not finish.

RGD Peptide Hydrogel With Hyaluronic Acid Closed 96% of Skin Wounds by Day 14 in Mice, Versus 80% for the Base Gel

Researchers at Shanghai Ocean University reported in Molecules on October 19, 2026 that a carboxymethyl chitosan gel combined with hyaluronic acid and RGD, a short cell-adhesion peptide, curbed bacterial growth, reduced bleeding, and sped healing of full-thickness skin wounds in mice. Wound closure reached 95.56% by day 14 compared with 79.85% for the base gel, with denser collagen and lower inflammatory signals. The results are from mice.
