Sermorelin is a lab-made copy of GHRH, the hormone that tells the pituitary gland to release growth hormone. The FDA approved it in 1997 as Geref for children with growth hormone deficiency, and the manufacturer voluntarily pulled Geref from the market in 2008. Sermorelin is still legal through compounding pharmacies with a valid prescription, since it sits on FDA Category 1. Sermorelin comes as an injection under the skin (most common), tablets that dissolve under the tongue, and nasal spray.
