Feinstein Institutes' Opsonic Peptide MOP3 Cuts Kidney Injury Markers After Blood-Flow Loss in Mice

Researchers at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research reported in Shock on October 13, 2026 that MOP3, a peptide derived from the protein MFG-E8 that tags the inflammatory signal eCIRP for removal by immune cells, reduced kidney damage when given as blood flow returned after 30 minutes of kidney ischemia in mice. Compared with untreated mice, MOP3 lowered circulating eCIRP by 40%, serum creatinine by 63%, blood urea nitrogen by 56%, and kidney injury markers such as KIM-1, and reduced tubular damage and cell death. The work is in mice.

Feinstein Institutes' Opsonic Peptide OP18 Helps Immune Cells Clear Radiation-Induced Inflammatory Debris in Lab Tests

Researchers at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research reported in Frontiers in Immunology on October 12, 2026 that OP18, an opsonic peptide that tags damage signals such as histone H3 and HMGB1 for removal, increased the uptake of macrophage extracellular traps, sticky webs that radiation-damaged immune cells release, through the αvβ3 integrin. Clearing the traps eased mitochondrial stress in macrophages, raised the anti-inflammatory signal IL-10, and showed a trend toward lower NF-κB activation. The results come from cell experiments only.
